two palm trees

outside my window are two palm trees
that stand next to each other
but never touch
they weather every type of weather,
whether it’s when the sun sets or rises
or when the downpour of rain falls
they stand tall, next to each other
but they never touch
in their years, hurricanes blow past
and hot summers scorch
and sometimes the winter brings frost
but they never leave each other’s side
even though they never touch
when it’s time for their leaves to leave
and give way for Palm Sunday
they will be bundled up in a holy one’s arms
palm to palm in holy palmer’s kiss
where they will no longer be outside my window
and no longer stand next to each other
but will finally touch
