Un-masked

The distance between us cannot hide your face
I see you so clearly, I summon through space
You arrive in an instant; I touch, taste, and smell
My senses on fire, my desire compels
We try to restrain fate, we attempt to play games
But passion prevails, we submit to its aims
With strength and desire refusing to shatter
The animal within becomes the sole master

We talk; we laugh, and pleasure the night
It feels so good, so easy, and so right
Yet, I know that expectations not shared
Remain unspoken as restless thoughts dared
Deep, brooding, and caged, he lets the mask slip
One question too many, his patience is stripped
He responds voice raised and hints of a fight
I lay quiet and still and I prepare to take flight

Reflecting vague stories about abuse and great rage
Fighting and hurting anyone in his cage
I don't want to know, to accept these sad tales
Or to be a page in his book where happiness pales
And yet I prevail, I see him and I call him by name
His dark eyes and dark presence respond in the same
Passion and intrigue dominate all the night long
I need him, I love him, I ask him to leave the mask on
