Unanswered Prayer

I sit in the silence and breathe deep.
Oh God, I want to know you.
My mind and soul have been asleep.
Oh God, I want to know you.
I read the books of those who know,
The love you are,
The love you show.
Oh God, I want to know you.
I cannot feel you near or see your face.
I leave this place in deep despair.
Within the silence I have searched.
And have not found you there.
Into the sun I walk and to my surprise,
I see you in a thousand eyes.
I hear you in the birds that sing.
You sing your song of love to me,
In every breeze that passes by,
In every wave that hits the shore
You say, "I love you ever more."
The God I could not find in prayer,
I find that God is everywhere.
