Unchained

They lock me in a cage, think I will rage, naw player.
I'm from a new age.

Thinking you can hold me down, 'cause I'm brown, no frown,
I got my cap 'n' gown.

Had me in a place of danger, everyone a stranger,
came up out like the Lone Ranger.

So now like a bae I crawl, I fall, I get up, I have the gall.
I'm wonderful, can't take me, didn't make me, never break me.
I'm stronger.

This Poems Story

I am Carlton Gray. Winston, GA has been home to me for 42 years now. Growing up, I would often write poems and rhymes just for fun. My love for poetry came from the great teachers I had at Winston Elementary, Stewart Middle, Douglas County High and the University of West Georgia. My poem "Unchained" was inspired by a bad part of my life that was spent in the Ga. Dept. of Corrections. I managed to take a negative situation and bring about a positive outcome. This is the first poem that I've ever submitted to anyone. I hope it provokes thought and the strength to go forward no matter what your situation is.
