Uncle Jeff’s Lillian

Some girls had to struggle, to get a meal to eat
She worked the land, she sewed and canned
Just to make ends meet
She met him on a whimsical day
His hair was golden blond
This navy man held out his hand
She knew her heart was gone
He marveled at her beauty
He marveled at her brain
He knew in his heart
He would never be the same
Years went by and children rose
As they grew together
Like the delicate bonding close
Of the songbirds' feather
She knew it was time for life to end here
She said to him, "My time is near."
And then the day came, she went to the place
Where she would be waiting, to again see his face
God knows what is best, He sends comfort to him
Until the day he is with her again
