Unconditioning

She felt an itch of divinity
between her shoulder blades,
somewhere behind the heart
space, where wings should grow.

Try as she could to
bendtwiststretchreach to
grow her own fingernails to
scratch it,

only
the rough of a tree,
the end of a clever invention,
the meeting of two walls or even
the hand of anyone else
would relieve her
humanity

if only
she would
bare it.
