Unfeathered

Something so essential to survival or death
Lone feather on the land, who left you lying there?
Gravity pulling harder towards crashing earth.

Remembering when feathers grew from birth
As love did from marriage vows of corporeal air,
Something so essential to survival or death.

Each year and wing beat as dear as breath
Until plumage shared frayed away the pair,
Gravity pulling harder towards crashing earth.

Fluttering and flying for all she's worth
Her feathers undoing a brutal, heartless affair,
Something so essential to survival or death.

This love that filled in feathers and mirth
Ripped away as strands of feathered hair,
Gravity pulling harder towards crashing earth.

Lone feather on the land, what is you worth?
As she screams plummeting into circular despair,
Something so essential to survival or death,
Gravity pulling harder towards crashing earth.
