Unheard

Gun shots ringing in my ear
as children scream with fear

They don't know that death has come
to take away what they hold dear

What they thought was the sound of drilling
was the sound of killing

A man declared insane
was walking through their halls
the children not knowing a murderer
was on the other side of that wall

Teachers try to remain calm
while holding shaking fingers in their palms
softly singing angelic songs

Parents, thinking their kids are safe
didn't expect the call
saying a murderer was loose and on the crawl

The atmosphere is filled with an innocent sadness
felt around the world
and the cries of little voices
still remain unheard
