Unrewarded Hero

He has no home or door to darken
But when he hears trouble he will harken.
No place to lay his weary head
He shakes and shivers without a bed.
He goes through life with no place to be
From one place to the next he must flee.
Most think he's a shaggy mess
But with loving care he'd be the best.

When the waters of the river rose high
His ears perked up to a child's cry.
Standing alone all drooping and wet
He's saved a boy who doesn't call him his pet.
As he shakes the water from his long grey hair
Upon the wind he hears a nearby dare
Running fierce with all his might
He comes upon a horrid sight.

Another Dog trapped inside
A house on a hill, it cannot hide.
In burning flames she is trapped
With brutal courage he must adapt.
In through a window and out he came
He's rescued his Golden Dame.
She'll keep him for her Beau
Forever more he'll be her Hero.
