A human hand once saved a bird
From crashing into sorrow
One broken wing, two trusting eyes
Will live to see tomorrow
Knows nothing of these creatures
Nor vows flesh'd lovers share--
Her devotion overwhelms her
Til her heart's exposed and bare
With time her wing has healed
Free skies call out her name
But she stays outside his door
Coaxed by warm fire's flame
Inside, he does not notice
Outside, she will defy
Though she does not belong there--
Her place is in the sky
They're blissful, they're connected
And forged from the same skin
He waves through frosted windows
At the lark who worships him
With pain unknown to all
Save those who, for love's sake
Destroyed their own ambitions
Herself, her wing she breaks
