Us Against the World

I sense a world in his soul.
Like a lonely flicker his eyes share a glimpse
of what hangs heavily beneath a lidded brown
ocean and I--
I am swept under a blanket of moments
that cover his world.
The annunciation of a brand-new alliance.
The world is too much with us,
Yet it's us against the world.
