Veiled Eyes

she is hidden in the shadows like a thief.
her long black cloak hangs to her feet.
i see her majestic eyes peer into the emptiness between us.
the street chatters at a low hush.
her white veil covers her face like a brush in front of a window.
her slender hand grasps the broom real low,
and she sweeps with the deftness of a cat stalking his prey.
the morning sun glimmers in her veiled eyes.
her seductive glances freeze me in time,
in her warm brown eyes peace and harmony i find.
it's morning i see the sunrise
and I'm reminded of my veil covered concubines.
