Vestigial Happiness

I live in vestigial happiness
Retracing my steps
In hopes that joviality will again stick to the hard rubber soles
That have taken the place of my once gentle soul
Retracing my steps
In hopes that contentment will again run up my leg
As puberty has run down
I exist in vestigial happiness
Retracing the rain-washed hopscotch grids
In hopes that my ink will liven the underused set of digits
That once laid on the playground
Retracing the rain-washed hopscotch grids
In hopes that my lead will awaken
Those dead grids
Ever I live in vestigial happiness
