Vicariously

Treading, barely able to sustain
Arms cutting cold water rushing overhead
Hope deplete, exhausted at the strain
Muscles burning, stinging with pain
With every stroke, legs filled with lead
Treading, barely able to sustain
Ringed barriers kept me hostage in lanes
Callous shouts drowning what he said
Hope depleted, exhausted at the strain
Waves rippling back, fighting with disdain
Commitment once filled with joy, now dread
Treading, barely able to sustain
Shattered goals, nothing left to gain
His constant pushing, my spirit dead
Hope depleted, exhausted at the strain
My life, my time spent on his dreams in vain
In view, the gold, but silver instead
Treading, barely able to sustain
Hope depleted, exhausted at the strain
