Visions of Home

Cupboard full of half empty spice jars
Cabinets scattered with novelty salt shakers
Always something warm for the taking

Coffee table piled with National Geographic magazines
Alphabetized shelf of DVDs I can quote from memory
Always some quiet tune in the air

Murals on the walls everyone helped to paint
A steadily increasing collection of coin jars
All the security we needed

I will create a home for stray cats and stray friends
Make our lives in the style of midnight doughnut runs
and falling asleep during movies

My house will be a sanctuary for the people like me:
Drifting, seeking, wronged and powerful
Here, they will sleep soundly and wake up refreshed
