Voice of Fear

the nagging, nettlesome voice inside
like the endless tick-tock, tick-tock of a clock
on a restless night, a reminder of its presence
throw a blanket over its hard, glassy face
still a mumbled and muted meter plays
frozen in a fetal position
falling tears leave failure trails
stop! it won't
what is wrong? me? the clock?
A new idea, never tried, give it a shot
take the blanket off the cold clock-
stare. drop to my knees. no! get up.
scream! seethe with tempered rage
tick-tock, tick-tock, tick-tock
sounds cut, creating a puddled mess
fresh tears, more failure, fall despair
a beckoning breeze, gentle and warm hope
stand up, knees shaking silently
reach out, grab the timeless piece
smash!
Peaceful silence permits sleep
