Voice of Shame

Feelings of shame keep us in bondage to the past;
unworthy feelings are our constant mask.
Believing the lie that it was our fault;
darkness surrounds you like a vault.
Living in the shadows so others can’t see;
shame holds you in bondage to misery.
Destruction wreaks havoc from the inside out;
distance from others seems to hide our doubt.
Disbelief in who God calls us to be;
alone in your mind believing others can’t see.
Gloom is our only companion;
allowing others to see would leave you abandoned.
God is the One who opens our eyes to the light;
shadows disappear as we put up a fight.
Battling the deception that plays in our mind;
the walls are slowly crumbling as our thoughts are aligned.
Joy overwhelming can be achieved;
Christ died on the cross and took our misery.
The sun is shining as the fog disappears;
the Spirit aglow and filled with cheer.
Take time to learn that you’re a child of the Most High;
His loving arms surround as we begin to cry.
Tears of joy slowly trickling down;
when you look in the mirror and see your crown.
