Voices

Voices yelled my name
They told me to speak falsely
They begged me to say wicked things
I did not give in
I did not reply
They spat in my face and called me worthless
Voices tore at my skin, pleading with me
I did not give in
I did not reply
They scratched my skin and ripped my clothes to shreds
Voices called me despicable and valueless
Still I did not give in
I did not reply
They threw stones at my face and opened my skull
Screaming words of hatred
I did not give in
I did not reply
They plunged knives through my chest and cursed my name
but suddenly the voices began to fade
As all my silent words seemed to rise at once
My words ripped the demons out of their throats
And the voices
Never spoke
AGAIN
