War is a rose

War is a rose that takes away the heart,
Left crumpled like a paper bag,
Defined by it's thick red petals
And tainted with promised love

War is a rose with a jagged edge,
Twisted thorns take the hem,
The points match the shade of red
It reminds us of them

War is a rose and not a flower,
Bearing thorns for every joy
With every song of love,
Another rests above -
To meet the maker.
