Warm Winter

Winter lights sparkle all around me,

Bringing all the peace that I feel in winter.

I watch the snow fall serenely from the dark gray night sky.

I catch one on my hand and smile.

Winter is a time of peace for me.

It's the one time of the year that I feel accepted and whole.

Like people truly accept who I am,

No matter how different I am from them.

As I walk down the street,

I see families sitting around warm fires,

And I am not chilled by the winter wind.

I feel as if I am there, too, soaking up the warmth of family.

I smile widely as a boy comes running down the street,

And another right behind him.

I can feel the winter chill nipping at my nose,

Biting the tips of my fingers,

Just like it used to,

When I ran wild on the streets with my sister at Christmastime.

No one is angry on this peaceful night.

I can feel the content hanging in the air like a beautiful halo.

And I feel only peace as I slip silently into my empty home.
