Warrior

Warrior

We stare through the sky ample with smoke
Seated with suspense in the trenches dug deep
What I’d give to see the moon once more
Rid of tiring eyes deprived of sleep
Every inch of myself weeps for a bite
A meal cooked by Ma, made with care
Not the cold-souled exceptions they serve me here
But a hot-dished delight served with love and a prayer
Only did I see what caught my eye to come
I’ve never seen the forest for the trees
Not once cared so deeply for my wholeness
Now I beg to get it back, please after please
A future with limits, to look forward with less
Live life in the shallow end of the deepest river
Pick up the scattered pieces of my broken dreams
To one coming day be the greatest of all, a giver
Echos in the trenches send shivers down my spine
Whispers of joy exploding into a blend
Ask my good mate about what’s going on
“Alas this outrage has come to an end”
I haven’t all my limbs, but I still stand with pride
I’ve seen the worst of the best, but I am still me
Bruises on my body live as fingerprints now
I fought till the end, a warrior I’ll always be
