We

We ask each other how we define ourselves
We question one another on where our significance falls
But have we not been with the monster
Awaiting in the pit of our belly-
Showing generation after generation
Not to fall victim to its rage and temptation?
Are we not the teachers to our descendants-
Warning them of the mistakes we made
And the mistakes they will not make?
We say we are fighters, here to protect in order to save
For we have come from reaching our fingers
Past the restraining holes of a metal fence
We say we are survivors, here to create and here to destroy
For we have become the one outside
Now looking inside the cage with disbelieved awe
And we say we are individuals, here for a cause
For we have come from being worn by time
To seeking adventure by a newfound courage
We are amongst the makers of history
We are the fruits of our ancestors
We have become the worthwhile lineage
That they hoped to create
So, ask each other how we define ourselves
Question one another on where our significance falls
And never leave either gone unanswered
