We Are Not Weapons

Aromas, scents, smells, stench,
murmurs, whispers, words, screams,
reach, touch, hold, drop
scraps, cuts, burns, shot

see the darkness because the light is too bright,
see the destruction because the peace is too kind
see the death because there is no life
see nothing because there is nothing left to see,

I try to view the world in a different light,
with blue skies instead of grey,
young boys and girls knowing play,
instead of fighting, killing, dying, rape

With children in strollers,
instead of children as soldiers,
light without burden, and innocent without loss,
standing tall, next to mama and papa

bullets, triggers, clips, reload,
ready, fire, bleed, cold,
murder, fear, frightened, threatened,
we are just children,
we are not weapons
