We Paid A Stranger

We came from a pain that we didn't understand to feel.
Swerving through disaster, we unreeled.
The drugs left our fear flat-lined.
There was an intensity to answers undefined.
Our hearing was lost, out searching for sound.
And we stopped listening to the ones who truly loved us
so they stopped coming around.
We built up walls that no one could get through.
We dug holes to be filled by another excuse,
just to shield from the abuse.
But we were only crafting a deadly noose.
Thank God for the strangers that we paid
to monitor the intake, day to day.
