What the scripture could not teach me

I meditated on,
Sorrowful faces,
The bluebirds in the hearts of wicked men,
The cruelty of saints,
The curve of the hip,
And learned,
What no scripture could ever teach me…

I meditated on,
Chubby boys and girls who lost weight,
In the hope of gaining the kingdom of everlasting joy,
A wise man turn an alcoholic,
A dog trying,
To cross the street,
In the hot sun,
And learned,
What no scripture could ever teach me…

I meditated on,
A slim girl who gained weight,
And lived happily ever after,
A lazy man get lucky,
And learned,
What no scripture could ever teach me….

I meditated on,
The alcoholic who went sober on his child's birth, for he smelt, and the baby turned her face away,
The killer who became a preacher,
The comeback of faded heroes,
The disgraceful fall of legends and icons,
And a grocery list,
And learned,
What no scripture could ever teach me….

I meditated on,
The kindness of corrupt men,
The righteousness of the harbingers of change,
The lion tamer who read love poems,
And learned,
What no scripture could ever teach me……
