What to Do

Accidents happen. But why?
Now we know. It was disease.
What to do? The doctor knows.
He says: She should go.
But cannot do.
It is humane. But cannot do.
So home we go.
And see the growth take over.
So painful to watch.
But cannot do.
We stick it out. And Sparky too.
But cannot do.
Immobile now, incontinent.
The vet says now.
But cannot do.
The last gasp comes.
A relief for now.
But was it right?
I cannot know.
What to do.
How can it be okay,
To put man's best friend down,
And not man's friend?
What to do. I do not know.
Do you?
