what uncivilized nonsense

Who remembers the Neanderthals?
Those who smashed their clubs in the dirt
and crawled, knuckles dragging through their caves.
what uncivilized nonsense.
in the infancy of mankind,
they lived too early to be remembered.
And yet, we think ourselves different.
We live in a time that may yet be a fraction of
humanity's lifespan.
And we have the narcissism to think
we are more than bones and artifacts.
To forget so quickly that we may be but a
shadow of the grand totality of mankind,
what uncivilized nonsense.
