What You’ve Done to Me

I've often walked the lonely path to chase the things I dared.
I've walked alone, been on my own, and never really cared.
My dreams consumed my every thought,
there was no room left inside me.
But then, my dear, my eyes found yours, and I instantly was empty.
All that fire deep inside me, now it burned for something new.
My heart pushed all those dreams aside,
and hung a vacant sign for you.
And so now, though I adore you, I'm laying down a rule.
Because I didn't come this far to not do good in school.
This rule is for my stubborn heart, I'll tell it what to do.
If I don't demand it beat for dreams then it will only beat for you.
I'm hesitant to love you, but it's not you that I may doubt.
I'm afraid that if I love you, my dream's fire might burn out.
I will allow my heart to love you, but I'll insist it won't forget-
All those dreams deep down inside me, that were everything,
Until we met.
