What’s a Poem Worth?

Some say a picture is worth a thousand words.
Is a poem worth a thousand miles,
Hiking through the Rocky Mountains of your thoughts?
Or a thousand sleepless nights
Debating prose and other nonsensical lyrics?

If a picture has memories that last a lifetime,
A poem has a message that will last a millennium.

A poem is a baby, newly born,
With a whole life of contingency ahead of it.
It is an opportunity
To share what's on one's mind
Reaching into the crevice of their heart.

A poem is an adventure.
A journey into an unknown world.
It is a breath of fresh air
To one whose head rose above the waves
On a cold night.

A poem is a heart and mind,
Working in harmony to achieve dreams.
A poem is a person looking for their self-worth.
A poem that has found its way
Are thoughts that go from dreams to birth.
