What's in a Name

Bombs flew, shrapnel slew
the squalid man hit the field
hurdling hollows, side-stepping blasts
his ragged chest I grasped
his name I sought, the man who fought
had warred so valiantly
Here a tag, but where the name
my heart raced deep within me
no name, no man, a face
a face left dead in its place
