When I Became My Shadow

When I became my shadow,
a projection on the ground,
I went everywhere I always go,
following myself around.

Thus we went, hither and yon,
never looking myself in the eye.
And I thought I would go on and on
that way until I'd die.

Never stopped to smell the flowers,
but hurried right on by,
wasting yet more hours
with worries by and by.

When I became my shadow,
and from the darkness peered,
I saw reality aglow
and of losing it, I feared.

Now once again in body,
some things I have to change.
I want to be somebody
who enjoys each day and age.
