When I Can't Remember

Will you hold my hand, hug me tight, let me know it will be alright?
When I can't remember...
Will you feed and dress me, tie my shoes, comb my hair?
Wish to God you can find me in there?
When I can't remember,
Will you tell me stories, remind me who I am:
Find the flicker of my life's span?
When I can't remember,
Will you leave me to sit alone in a strange place, call it home-
Day after day, week after week, till I have no voice to speak?
Will anger and frustration win out, as I try to verbalize with dignity and grace, Losing the battle, staring into space?
When I can't remember...
My mind will be gone,
Spirit remaining trapped in a place, not to be heard from again.
