When I Drink

Oh dear, I fade
We sat in chairs and upon acquaintances' comforters
Where the bloodshot wine slurped into their gummy cheeks
Because it felt closest to oblivion

Oh dear, I promise I ran
My palms embellished into the bathroom stall's corners
Like the local jeweler had come to do a mural on prehistoric craters
Because I was trying to touch you

Oh dear, I swear I cried
As my dirty fingernails seep into my scalp they cut tears in my skin
Where there are bombs firing off in my chest spelling out your name
Because I am trying to remember your voice

Oh dear, I've been swearing to God
Because your beautiful body is in the ground
And we've been having so much snow
And I can't help myself but think of how cold you must be

But I promise to knit you a sweater
Oh dear, I swear I cried
