When I Go Away

By Carla

When I Go Away

Bittersweet memories ebb like the tide
On a long-forgotten beach
Leaving bits and pieces of debris
Where beautiful shining shells
Once marveled in the sun.

When I go, don’t let small things
Be forgotten. Time waits for no one,
But let the sun dry your tears
For I have brought forth life to this earth.
Where there was no color,
I have painted hues of blue and gray.
For those left behind,
I have loved with a depth of oceans.
I have been a woman.
