When Life Begins

Can you tell me where my heart is?
I feel a sliver in it-
it's cracking, breaking.
Why are you breaking my heart?
Is it because you love me,
or because you want part of it?
No, I will give you all of it.
Whole, complete,
for nobody but you.
I expect nothing back.
You may do as you wish with it,
but I do ask this one thing:
When my heart stops beating
and the silence follows,
come find me.
Return my failure to me,
so I may start living.
