When Momma Died

I got a call the other day, said come home quick!
Momma's sick

When I arrived in town I had hope in my eyes
Not knowing this was going to be our last good-bye

Momma was taken to the hospital
'Cause she was ill
She needed the requirement of a doctor's skill

The doctor pumped, pumped and beat her heart
Working so hard to get it to start

Then he stopped and wrote a note
It made me sad what he wrote

Your momma's time is very short
She will be needing to exit, on that passport

Momma laid on that bed, her body so limp
Each time I looked at her, she looked more and more dim

When Momma died that day, I felt all alone
But I was okay, because she was not on her own

As we laid Momma to rest, I tried to hold up my best
But when they put Momma in the grave,
To stand strong, I couldn't; I just failed that test
