When the Lights Go Out

The lights go out,
The room goes dark.
She suddenly hears a shout
And sees a spark.

She races for the door
And feels nothing but fear.
She drops to the floor,
Hoping help is near.

Why did he do this?
What went wrong?
She was living in bliss,
But he wanted her gone.

She wonders why
He would do such a thing.
Now she sits and cries
In agonizing pain.

She's scarred for life;
Her self-esteem is gone.
She hates to go outside.
She no longer feels strong.

Alone at night,
Wondering what life is about,
She feels a fright
When the lights go out.
