When Time Stopped

Time had never been so stuck
That soon a moment outside would feel like a savory dessert
Loneliness and uneasiness became a daily routine
As the world was on stand by
My anxiety continued to rise like America’s unemployment rate
And soon my thoughts would consume my every emotion, leaving me exhausted
Days on end I would long for companionship, someone other than my four walls
I was hoping she was doing okay, it had been almost a year since we had spoken, and during this time I knew we would have kept each other company to drown out our boredom
But she wasn’t there, though the memories were
And my heart felt as lonely as the city streets without her
I would think to myself
“I really miss my best friend”

Dedicated to Isabella.
