Where I’m From

I'm from a place where music touches all
Where the shade is our home
And the Sun is our playground

A place where we fall down
But get back up
A place where families not just blood
But those around
A place where Sports and art are accepted
A place where I feel OK when I'm not

I'm from a place where I am accepted
IPhone place where gender, race, and sexuality
does not matter

But I'm also from a place where I live in fear
A fear of gangs and gun violence
A place where I have to look when I walk
A place where I can lose someone for the way they talk

A place with both good and bad

But that's okay though
Because that's where I'm from
without it I wouldn't have the friends I've made
I want to have stand Where I Stood
It's made me lout
but also proud
because that's where I'm from today
