Where I’m From

I'm from the place where the ocean and sky meet
I'm from dancing in thunderstorms
And writing snippets of poetry in the sand
I'm from reading dog-eared books in muted candlelight
And wishing on train tracks and dandelions
I'm from questioning faith
And falling in love with strangers
I'm weary of searching for magic
And finding only reality
I'm from looking up at the lights of the nighttime city,
And having no words
I've ached with the urge to run away and travel the world
To see everything that there is to see
And tell my stories to strangers on buses
I'm from strength kindled by the burn of loss
I'm from dreams bigger than my mind
I'm from chasing sunrises at dawn
And catching shooting stars in my hand
I'm from the place where the ocean and sky meet
