Where The Dark Things Hide

Come here, darling, and I’ll tell you a story
Of a girl who once shivered in the dark
Her eyes finding twisted creatures
In the deep shadows dancing on her walls

Of a girl who grew up fair and bright
Radiant and keen of mind
Who saw the same monsters raging in others souls
And watched as their glinting teeth and lusting claws
Dug into their prey’s very soul

A girl who found sanctuary in the same night
She once cowered from
Who found comfort in the darkness
Seeping through her window
Draping around her like a threadbare blanket
Under the gentle glow of the stars

So no, darling
I’m not scared of the dark
I’m scared of the moment the light clicks on
And you see where the dark things hide
