Where were you then

When dark and heavy were the clouds of misery that hovered
When long and cold were the nights of solitude that passed
When strange and hollow were the shadows of unknown that loomed
Where were you? Where were you then?

When high and vast was the sky of uncertainty that roved
When slow and wary was the time of change that emerged
When strong and mighty was the land of struggle that prevailed
Where were you? Where were you then?

When deep and loud were the questions of past that lingered
When weak and shallow were the answers of future that wandered
When wild and fiery were the storms of present that conquered
Where were you? Where were you then?

When fast and busy was the world with loss and gain
When vain and empty was the life with joy and sorrow
When lost and lonely was I in this world and life
Where were you? Where were you then?
