Where You Are

You told me, not to be afraid of this life
and what will come of it.
You told me, not to be addicted to the pain,
or how it felt to be numb, but I was too far gone.
You told me that happiness was a choice, if only I had known.
Because, maybe I wouldn't think the way I do
or shut the door on you as much as every time you try and fix me.
Or maybe I still would.
because you can't really change the way you react
to the sound of her crying,
or the words that slap you across the face.
And you can't really pause your world for a moment,
just so you can have enough time to pick up the pieces.
And yeah, maybe I'll never be quite okay
with the people who drown me
in their meaningless phrase "I love you."
And maybe one day I'll accept it and realize it's okay,
that one day all I will need
is the one person to say it and mean it.
That one day, in the midst of this life,
I will find that silver lining,
that leads me to you.
