Who I Am

These heavy chains keep me confined
To what they make of me.
They locked me up because I gave myself
So willingly.
I'm black and blue from where their taunts
Have crippled me.
My light grows dim and I give my last drop
Of energy.

But something changes as the tears stream down
My face.
I am not ready to just give up
The chase.
I'm crying out in agony, for I don't want my memory soon
Effaced.
I'll be the first to make a change, to mean something so I don't die
In vain.

I'll free myself from all their lies,
And find my strength from deep inside.
Never again will they decide
Who I am.
I'm ready to show them
Who I am.
