Who we don’t want to be

We all have our reasons to protect them,
to hide our identity from the people close to me.
We even hide it from ourselves,
as we wish we were different.
For as long as we tell ourselves
that the feelings aren't there,
we will continue to dismiss
an important part of who we are.
For what we feel is who we are,
and who we are is what we feel.
Our capacity to feel- for ourselves, for others,
defines us as beings.
Humans are sensitive at different levels,
and some simply feel too much for their own good.
Who we are quickly becomes
who we don't want to be.
