Whom Love Me And Need Me

The dog sits all alone
Chained to a shed
And howls forever
But will never be set free

The bush may have friends
But is empty and hollow
It has no heart or no conscience
Rough and unmoving it stands

The car is alive
If only for moments at a time
But once driven home
The engine stops roaring

The house sags from tears
And the weight that it carries
Messy, neglected, an afterthought
But it's swallowed in rain

The man comes sunny and bright
He has stopped by and cared
Sun and moon fight for his eyes
But he says no, "I have come for the weak
For the dog and the bush and the car and the house
These are who need me
And these are whom love me"
