Why I Did It

By Beth

Whenever you were walking alone, I was there next to you.
Even as you kneel at the tree, you were there with me.
Because while I was suffering and dying for something I didn’t do,
I was thinking of you

I was thinking about how you always sing to me with your lips
but not with your spirit
How you claim my name in the process of bringing shame
I was thinking about all the times you’ve lied to me and betrayed me
And hated me for not giving you a simple plan

Yet I still see my little girl
Not the one who spits in my face and leave me in disgrace
No, I see someone beautiful
I see someone precious
I see a creation made to represent the Holy One
The One who made me see who you are meant to be

And besides all of that
Besides the pros, cons,
The positive and the negative,
Besides everything you have done and not done
I love you
And that’s why I did this for you.
