Why I Don’t Write Poetry

I don't write poetry anymore
I don't find comfort in metaphors and rhyme schemes
I feel like forcing my verbal purge into a melodic format kind of negates the need for purge
I want to write poetry
So other people can feel my words
And have them ring in their minds long past my final lines
But I can't write poetry
Because my struggles are not beautiful
They are not delicate or dainty
They don't fit in at open mic night
My struggles are blood and flesh and sweat and scars
They don't uplift
My struggles come from the deepest part of me and spill out of my fingers onto paper
My struggles are too strong for me to speak
My tongue is too weak to speak them
And that is why
I don't write poetry anymore
