Wildfire

Crackling flames invade the night
Filling it with sound and light.
Bullhorns blare, “Evacuate!
Leave your home - don't hesitate!”
Wailing children, pulled from bed
Pounding hearts all filled with dread
Choking on the acrid smoke
Enclosing all within its cloak.
Popping, snapping, tinkling glass
Ominously hissing gas.
Panic, tumult everywhere
Thumping rotors whip the air
Helicopters chop the sky
Sirens screaming, trucks roll by.
