Willow

Willow
Riley Rottinghaus

On a warm summer day,
My mom came to time
And showed to me a picture of
A puppy filled with glee.

We knew she was special from the very beginning.
Although she had one ear,
It never got in her way of fun.
Even with one, she could hear.

When she was a pup and tiny
Her mom wasn’t fond of her
So she bit off her right ear.
The puppy mad went grrrr.

It took a while to think of a name.
But one did speak to me
Willow was the name we chose
And everyone cheered with glee!

I’d think of her all day and night
She’s always on my mind.
We’d play fetch and pass the time,
She is one-of-a-kind.

She was quite the sight, that dog,
A golden with one ear.
But nevertheless, we did love her.
Willow brings us cheer.

Always happy and excited to see me,
Ready to tussle and play.
She was tired from helping dad
Like a teen at the end of the day.

We’ve had Willow for two short years.
I want her to stay for a while.
Like scoring a basket in a game,
She always makes me smile.
